Posted by: Troy Its close to the end of year and time for a yearly countdown. There have been so many atrocities called songs that have been released this year to the point that I won't bother to grade them because these songs are unadulterated crap. Im keeping it short & sweet, folks. Here are the top 10 worst songs of 2014. Here we go...
10. Florida Georgia Line - "Sun Daze" This ranks among the worst singles they've released, if not ever. Even worse, Sarah Buxton co-wrote this with those pinheads. Shame on you Sarah for allowing those animals to help write it. 5 writers couldn't save this song. Booooooo! Posted by: Cobra Today is the final part in a three part post in which I am looking back and grading the 37 songs which have hit Number One on the two major American country music charts in 2014. Part One covered the 12 songs, as did Part Two. Today's entry covers 13 more songs.
If you missed either of the first two parts, check them out. Part One can be found here and Part Two can be found here. “My Eyes” – Blake Shelton featuring Gwen Sebastian Number One on Country Airplay Chart This is another throw-away song that should have been left as an album cut off of Based on a True Story… It probably would have been as well if Shelton hadn’t been trying to promote both The Voice and its former contestant Gwen Sebastian. The song is built solely around a somewhat clever hook: “my eyes are the only thing I don’t want to take off of you.” The song is relatively inoffensive; it never comes off as creepy like some other songs of this vein might, but beyond that hook, there’s not much else about this song that’s memorable. 2.5/5 Posted by: Cobra Announced earlier today, Brooks & Dunn have reunited for a residency with Reba in Las Vegas. Show dates have been announced at www.rebabrooksanddunn.com, with the event beginning June 24, 2015.
There is no word yet on any other specifics as to the extensiveness of the reunion or if it stretches anywhere beyond this residency event. Dunn has been active on his Facebook page recently, leading up to "officially" announcing his signing with NASHIcon. He also cryptically wrote, "talkin' to Kix He's talkin' back" Does this mean that a reunion is official or that new music is coming from them? Again, there's no word how extensive this reunion is. And as of yet, it's just Dunn who's signed to NASHIcon, not Kix, or Brooks & Dunn as a duo. Time will tell if there's anything more to this. Dunn has been releasing news slowly and in bits and pieces on social media, keeping his fans intrigued and interested. It would be nice if this led to more, so time will tell. Posted by: Cobra This is Part Two of a three part series in which I am looking back at the 37 songs which hit number one on the two major American country music charts since the start of 2014. If you missed Part One, check it out here. It covered the first 12 of the 37 songs on the list.
Now, onto Part Two. "Sweet Annie" - Zac Brown Band Number One on Country Airplay Chart One of my favorite releases from ZBB, I really liked this song. It had a great melody, and, in my opinion, Brown's vocals were the strongest I'd heard them since "Colder Weather." A great offering from a band that really works hard to keep their music as rooted in country as possible. 5/5 Posted by: Cobra As November comes to a close, and the final month of the year begins, I thought I would take a look back at the 37 country (or "country") songs that have hit Number One (on either the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart or the Country Airplay Chart) over the course of 2014 and grade them, as a way of looking at how country music has fared in 2014. Some songs hit Number One on multiple charts, and will, obviously, only be graded once.
Some of these songs I reviewed in full, while others I did not have the opportunity to do so. But each of these will have a quick recap with my thoughts on the song and a 1-5 star grade. "Stay" - Florida Georgia Line Number One on both Country Songs Chart and Country Airplay Chart. Okay, this is Florida Georgia Line we're talking about here. They almost need their own scale in some cases. Arguably, up until "Dirt," this was their least bro-country song. It wasn't a great song, but honestly, in the hands of a more capable artist, it wouldn't have been a terrible song either. The annoying voice of the long-haired guy in the group made the song difficult to listen to, but lyrically speaking, this one could have been a whole lot worse. 2/5 Posted by: Cobra In a way this was a difficult album for me to review. As a fan of country music, I respect Zac Brown Band for, largely, remaining mostly country in a mainstream landscape of music that seems to becoming more and more pop every day. However, as far as personal taste goes, I've never been their biggest fan. This isn't to say I've wanted to turn the radio off when they come on. On the contrary, they've always been a breath of fresh air on the radio. However, I've also never felt an urge to go rush out and purchase their albums for repeated listens, or to go see them live.
