“It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for quite a while,” Yanni was quoted as saying. “I think it could bring a wider appreciation to my music and my talents.”
When asked what would be different about this album, Yanni admitted that very little was changing. “Musically it’s going to be very similar to what it’s always been,” he said. “I’ve just put in some references to girls in cutoffs, fireball whiskey and beer, tailgates, and bonfires. Other than that, my fans can expect really a lot of the same of what I’ve always offered them. I did manage to get together with Dallas Davidson to do some co-writing, and I think our styles really melded…my musical talent with his ability to put out endless clichés. I think the fans will really like it.”
While many mainstream country fans embraced the news believing a new pretty face in the genre is never something to sneer at, traditional country fans remain skeptical.
The first single from the album, one of Yanni’s co-writes with Davidson, “New-Age Cowboy” is set to impact radio in early March as the debut for the album which right now has a tentative release date of mid-July.
Unconfirmed rumors suggest that Enya may be doing a duet with Yanni on the album.
