This was partially inspired by a section of Country Perspective’s “Hodgepodge of Country Stuff” column, but honestly, this is something I’ve been considering doing for a while. I have a lot of non-country music in my music catalog, and while my primary love of music is country, I do have a wide array of tastes.
For the first of these columns, I am recommending Pacific Coast Eyes by Graham Colton, released in 2011.
Pacific Coast Eyes is one of my favorite non-country albums of all time. I absolutely love this album. From the opening chords of the first track to the closing strains of “A Day Too Late,” there is not one bad track in the collection.
I also recommend you pick up Pacific Coast Eyes Volume 2. It features three alternate session versions, three new tracks not included on the original release, and one alternative track (i.e. don’t ignore the original release – a track called “With You” was omitted from Volume 2, and replaced with a different track called “Our Story (One Day at a Time).” Colton has a great voice and top-notch song-writing ability.
I hate to list standout tracks on an album such as this because every single track is a standout, but here are a few:
"Pacific Coast Eyes"
"1981"
"There Comes a Time"
"Twenty Something"
"With You"
"Our Story"
"A Day Too Late"
I’ve included a sample song below.
